SHW Automotive begins operating the logistics automation system installed by H+H

Start-up in February 2014. Since 2005 H+H Herrmann + Hieber has supplied and installed a variety of equipment at the Tuttlingen plant of Schwäbischen Hüttenwerke (SHW Automotive GmbH) for the automatic transport of materials for brake disc production. In October last year H+H was awarded the contract to automate the transport for a newly installed machining unit.

As part of the logistics project roller tracks, SmartBelts with rubberised rollers, units for transverse sorting and other equipment were installed, including the necessary drive technology and controls. Since production was not to be interrupted by the assembly of the new equipment, H+H installed in advance a provisional component transport system which bridged over the assembly duration.

SHW is nowadays one of the leading manufacturers of pumps and engine components for the global automobile industry. At the plant in Tuttlingen-Ludwigstal the brake disc blanks are produced in the company’s own foundry and – according to the order – either supplied directly as blanks or sent to the company’s Neuhausen ob Eck site for ready-to-fit machining.
