For a capacity enlargement of about 10 percent the throughput of the automated internal logistics system at the Pandolfo extrusion plant in Lentiai (Feltre) also has to be extended. For this Pandolfo has again commissioned H+H, which for its part was responsible for planning and installing the logistics equipment.
In 2001 the Italian extrusion plant Pandolfo Alluminio began a comprehensive modernisation and extension programme. With the help of H+H a fully automatic material flow system was installed, with which the production of four presses can be distributed flexibly to the furnace units, the intermediate storage positions and the packing stations. The goods destined for further processing at an external subsidiary plant are also separated out automatically. Besides extensive floor-level conveyor technology and handling equipment, five automatic cranes were installed for this. The result corresponds to the highest technical standard in the branch.
Now, Pandolfo plans to boost its production. The enlargement will take place in two stages, respectively of 2,000 and 3,000 tonnes per year. In the first stage, which has now been commissioned, the logistics system already installed will not have to be changed. Thus, for H+H the task is to bring the existing transport systems correspondingly up to the mark. In this case that will be achieved with the help of a series of different individual measures which relate both to the control system and also to the mechanical equipment.
